Getting to Kulhudhuffushi City
275 km from Velana International Airport
Scheduled Speedboat
From Hanimaadhoo International Airport
30 min • $4.54 per person
Daily except Friday
MTCC's RTL runs a direct link from Hanimaadhoo several times a day, and it is much the cheapest way in for anyone flying into HAQ rather than HDK. Nothing sails on Fridays, and the last boat off Hanimaadhoo leaves early afternoon, so a later flight means overnighting there. RTL also connects Ha. Dhihdhoo to Kulhudhuffushi on route S1V1, about 55 minutes for USD 9.08. Fare is a fixed per-person one-way public rate.

Private Speedboat
From Hanimaadhoo International Airport
30 min
Daily
Charter launches cross the roughly 17 km from Hanimaadhoo International Airport, the north's other gateway, and can be arranged for any hour, including after the last scheduled sailing of the day has gone. This is the usual fallback when the single daily Malé flight is full or badly timed. This is a charter fare for the whole boat, not a fixed per-person rate.
Works with late arrivals
Domestic Flight
From Velana International Airport (Malé)
55 min • $202.64 per person
Daily
Maldivian is the sole operator into Kulhudhuffushi Airport (HDK), which sits about 0.4 km from the city centre, so there is no boat leg after landing. Only one departure a day, in the morning — an international arrival later than that means a night in Malé first. Fare is a per-person one-way rate.

Guest guidance
Good to know before you arrive

- No alcohol
Who it's for
Travellers who want a working northern city island — harbour, markets, mangrove wetlands and coir-rope workshops — with a hospital and daily flights from Malé.
Who it's not for
Beach-first holidaymakers, nightlife seekers, anyone wanting a designated bikini beach or resort-style service, and travellers set on a small quiet village island.
Dress code
Modest dress in town — shoulders and knees covered. No designated bikini beach here, so keep swimwear for a resort or sandbank excursion.
During Ramadan
Local cafés and restaurants may close or limit service during Ramadan daylight hours; guesthouses generally still serve guests. Avoid eating or drinking in public.
