Access points

Getting to Ihavandhoo

314.4 km from Velana International Airport

  • Public Ferry

    From Ha. Hoarafushi

    10 min • $2.27 per person

    Daily except Friday

MTCC's RTL network runs two direct crossings a day each way between Hoarafushi and Ihavandhoo. No change of boat and no intermediate stops. Nothing sails on Fridays, and the last boat of the day leaves Hoarafushi at 16:25, before the Malé flight lands, so this leg connects with the morning departure only. The same network links Ihavandhoo directly to Dhidhdhoo, the atoll capital, in 35 minutes for USD 4.54, and to Kulhudhuffushi in 100 minutes for USD 9.73. Tickets can be bought online or on board. The fare is the fixed per-person one-way public rate.

  • Private Speedboat

    From Ha. Hoarafushi

    10 min

    Daily

Charter boats run on demand across the 4.4 km between Hoarafushi and Ihavandhoo, arranged through a guesthouse rather than booked online. This is the only way in if you land on the 17:30 flight, since the last public ferry leaves Hoarafushi at 16:25, and it is also the only option on a Friday, when the public ferries do not run. Any price quoted will be a charter fare for the whole boat, not a fixed per-person rate.

    Works with late arrivals

  • Domestic Flight

    From Velana International Airport (Malé)

    1 hr 10 min • $205.14 per person

    Sun, Tue, Thu, Sat

Maldivian is the sole operator, flying Malé to Hoarafushi Airport (HRF) on the neighbouring island as there is no airstrip on Ihavandhoo itself. This is the first leg only: you still need the 10-minute boat crossing covered in the Public Ferry row below. The inbound flight lands at 17:30, after the day's last public ferry has left Hoarafushi, so arrange a private boat through your accommodation or plan a night in Hoarafushi. Going the other way, the 18:00 departure means a long wait after the morning ferry. Fare is priced per person for one-way

Guest guidance

Good to know before you arrive

  • No bikini beach
  • No alcohol

Who it's for

Travellers who want a working northern fishing and boatbuilding community rather than a tourism island, reached by a ten-minute boat hop from the airport island.

Who it's not for

Anyone wanting nightlife or a drink, resort-level comfort, a dive centre on site, hospital-grade care, or a boat connection on a Friday.

Dress code

Modest dress across the village — shoulders and knees covered. With no designated bikini beach confirmed, save swimwear for a boat or sandbank excursion.

During Ramadan

Local cafés and restaurants may close or limit service during Ramadan daylight hours; guesthouses generally still serve guests.
